Jewel Newsom
Mrs. Jewel Evon Newsom, 87, of the Midway community passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 24, 2026, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gardner Church of Christ. Sidney White will officiate. Burial will follow in Stanley Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of services Sunday.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and other family members.
Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jewel was born July 1, 1939, in Tiptonville, daughter of the late James Andrew and Selma L. (Sanford) Durham. She married Frank “Bubba” Newsom on July 9, 1955. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2020. Jewel was a Christian and a faithful member of Gardner Church of Christ.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet Boyd (Mark) and Sherry Byars, both of Union City, and Ellen Snider of South Fulton; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy Durham of Hornbeak; and one sister, Betty Maynard of South Fulton.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Lynn Wilson; one grandson, Dustin Wilson; one sister, Carolyn Newsom; and one son-in-law, Lawrence Hawley.
