AN INSIDE LOOK — Union City Elementary School first-graders Jade Andrews (left) and Aubrey Littleton were among the youngsters who learned all about themselves — both inside and out — in recent weeks. As a part of the Core Knowledge Language Arts® curriculum human body study, students in Mallory Powers’ and Jennifer Durham’s Knowledge classes engaged in a two-part lesson that was both informative and fun. The first half of the study introduced the fundamental parts and functions of the five body systems: skeletal, muscular, digestive, circulatory and nervous. The second half focused on care and maintenance of the human body. Thanks to unique “What’s Inside Me” aprons, donated to first-grade classrooms by the DonorsChoose program and Tyson Foods, students were able to turn what they’d learned about the body’s system into identifying where organs are located in the body.
