FOR THE RECORD(S)

FOR THE RECORD(S) — Obion County Mayor Steve Carr (center) led a tour of the county’s newly-renovated records storage building on South Fourth Street near the courthouse Monday. He was joined by (from left) Register of Deeds Cheryl Reddin, county commissioners Phillip Dunlap and Rob Holman, county purchasing director Shanna Ferguson and county commissioner Kenneth Barnes. Several other county officials also toured the building after Monday morning’s commission meeting. The building formerly housed the county jail many years ago, as well as the district attorney’s office in more recent years. Most recently, it was privately owned prior to being repurchased by Obion County for records use in early 2025 with funds generated by fees. Its renovation was handled by county maintenance employee C.J. Ledbetter, whose outstanding work was commended. County officials had worked in recent years to find adequate space after an engineering study determined no more weight should be added to the courthouse’s top floor, where many records are stored in the old jail space. Some records must be saved forever.
