GETTING IT IN ‘GEAR’

GETTING IT IN ‘GEAR’ — Dressed in firefighting gear, Firefighter 1st Class David Stone of the Union City Fire Department ran through the grounds of Discovery Park of America early Saturday as he participated in the Discovery Dash 10K with the support of Lt. Corey Jones, a fellow firefighter. Stone chose to run the 6.2 miles of the 8 a.m. race in his full turnout gear, with the exception of wearing tennis shoes. He has run some 5K (3.1 miles) races in full gear in the past, but never a 10K. Stone said he did the run Saturday for a couple reasons: To promote firefighter fitness, and because he was not able to participate in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb the previous Saturday at Discovery Park’s tower.
