HAVING A BALL — Union City Elementary School kindergartner Helena Ballance smiled up at Abby Suiter, a special education educational assistant at UCES as well as a volleyball coach in the UC system, after making her toss in the softball throw event Friday morning during the Area 7 Special Olympics spring games at War Memorial Stadium on the UC High School campus. Helena is the 6-year-old daughter of Jessica and Justin Ballance of Union City. Students with special needs from schools in Obion, Weakley, Lake, Carroll and Henry counties — among them those from both the UC and OC systems — competed in track and field events, which were ultimately forced indoors by rain.
