Baxter Wheatley

Mr. Baxter Enloe Wheatley, 88, a resident of Union City, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Legacy of North Myrtle Beach in Little River, S.C.
Services for Mr. Wheatley were 4 p.m. Sunday at First Methodist Church in Union City, with the Rev. Dan Tilly officiating.
Burial followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in McKenzie late afternoon on Sunday.
Visitation was Sunday at the church from 2 p.m. until the hour of service at 4 p.m.
Pallbearers were Mike Wheatley, Lynn Brinkley, Marty Tapper, Dennis Spears, Kevin Wheatley, Jeff Barksdale, Adam Wheatley, Nathan Wheatley, Greg Wilson, Sid Carey and John Archer.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Character Builders Sunday School Class and members of the Union City School System.
White-Ranson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wheatley was born April 22, 1935, in Big Sandy to the late Martha (Potts) and Joe Wheatley. He married Carlyne Brinkley April 25, 1958. She passed away on Dec. 19, 2018.
Mr. Wheatley was a United States Army Veteran and was a long time educator and retired from the Union City School System as Superintendent. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Union City, where he was a member of the Character Builders Sunday School Class. Mr. Wheatley was a member of the Union City Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow Recipient. He also was a member of the Tennessee School Board Association.

Mr. Wheatley is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol (David) Martin of Sunset Beach, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Stan (Dena) Wheatley of Mebane N.C.; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Hailey (Graham) Galloway of Canton, N.C.; and one brother, Bill Wheatley of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, J.G. Wheatley and Dossie Wheatley.
