Sterling Stone III
Sterling Monroe Stone III, 76, passed away on Oct. 4, 2026, at a VA facility in Asheville, N.C.
Sterling was born and raised in Union City, where he was educated and formed many lifelong friendships. He proudly served in the United States Army as a military policeman, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Sterling later found his professional home with FedEx. His career took him to the Asheville area, where he continued working with FedEx until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria; his father, Sterling Monroe Stone Jr.; and his mother, Martha Louise Stone.
Sterling is survived by his brother, Stephen Stone (Patsy); his sister, Stephanie Beasley (Dan); and Gloria’s two daughters.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Maggie Valley, N.C., with Smoky Mountain Funeral Services.
