Mac Sutton

Daren McCoy “Mac” Sutton, 79, of Minnick died on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born Saturday, Nov. 16, 1946, in Elbridge, he was the son of the late Joseph Herbert Sutton and the late Vergie Bertha McCoy Sutton.
Mac proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve for four years. He later worked as the Food Service Manager for the Northwest Tennessee Correctional Complex in Tiptonville.
Mac was perhaps best known as the owner of Fast Mac’s BBQ, a business he proudly operated for more than 30 years. Through the years, Fast Mac’s became much more than a business to Mac. It was a place where people gathered, stories were shared, and friendships were made. He formed countless lifelong friendships with the people he met along the way, and he truly never met a stranger.
A dedicated member of Glendale Church of Christ, Mac was a man of faith who also cared deeply about his community. He was a longtime supporter of the Cloverdale Community and took pride in being a part of the people and places that meant so much to him.
He was a people person in every sense of the word. He enjoyed talking to anyone he came in contact with and could make people feel welcome wherever he was. His easy conversation, friendly nature and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on many.
While he was devoted to his work and proud of the business he built, Mac’s greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather and, most especially, the best “Papa” to his great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest treasure, and the love he gave them will continue to live on in the memories they hold dear.
Mac will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of people, his dedication to his family, his strong faith and the many friendships he made throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work and countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Mr. Sutton were 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. Officiating the service was Mr. Johnny Finley. Interment followed at Zion Cemetery in the Cloverdale community. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, and from noon-1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the funeral home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Shirley Horne Sutton of Minnick; one daughter, Jennifer Sutton Green (Jerome) of Minnick; two nieces, Paulette Sutton of Memphis and Shanna Burrow of Troy; and one nephew, Chet Sellers of Troy. He was “Papa” to his three grandchildren, Jeremy Green (Lauren), Justin Green (Faith) and Jennalea Eddlemon ( Ashton); and six great-grandchildren with another to join the family soon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Daymon Sutton, Ralph Sutton, James “Pappy” Sutton and Johnny Sutton; and five sisters, Margaret Argo, Vernelle Sellers, Joan Sutton, Shirley Thurman and Jeanne Davis.
Honoring Mr. Sutton as pallbearers were Jerome Green, Alton Horne, Jeremy Green, Justin Green, Ashton Eddlemon and Chet Sellers. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Smith and Bobby Crowell.
