Nancy Tinkle

Nancy Marie Wiley Tinkle, age 90, formerly of Martin and Union City, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at Legacy Village Memory Care and Assisted Living in Hendersonville, where she had been a resident for the past five months. 
“Miss Nancy” was the wife of the late Charles Freeman Tinkle for 26 years until he passed with Cancer. The couple were married Jan. 23, 1953. Nancy and Chuck were the parents of six children: Theresa Marie (Terry) Tinkle of White House, Paul Freeman Tinkle (Diane) of Martin, Robert Patrick “Pat” Tinkle (Betty) of Murfreesboro, David Wiley Tinkle (Anna) of Pleasant View, Charles Vincent (Vince) Tinkle of Hot Springs, Ark., and Michael James (Mike) Tinkle Sr. (Kathy) of Ashland City. She is also survived by her sisters, Rita Winter of Union City and Bernadine Fritts of Fernandina Beach, Fla.
She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and her beloved Shih-Poo “Sadie” for almost 10 years.
Miss Nancy was an accomplished pianist and organist and played organ and keyboards at Immaculate Conception Church in Union City, Holy Angels Church in Dyersburg and St. Jude Catholic Church in Martin over 70 years.
She was born in Union City, was a 1951 graduate of Union City High School, a member of the UCHS Band and attended Murray State, where she met her husband Chuck.
She worked in the family’s Blue Bell Laundry and Cleaners in Union City and later moved to Martin, where she became a registered Medical Assistant for the late Dr. Robert Patrick in Martin. She worked for Wal-Mart as a cashier and later a service desk clerk for 20 years upon retiring. She was a BeautiControl cosmetics consultant and was an advocate for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Her hobbies included collecting antique costume jewelry.
White-Ranson Funeral Home is in charge of the service. Visitation for friends with the family will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, with a Catholic Mass at St. Jude Church in Martin, officiated by Father Dennis Schenkel. Miss Nancy will be buried in the Stanley Chapel Cemetery in the Midway Community next to her husband. Pallbearers are Nathan Robinson, Jordan Tinkle, Robert Tinkle, Chuck Tinkle, Michael Avent and Matt Crabtree.
