Charles O’Bannon

Charles Phillip “Chuck” O’Bannon, 82, of Parsons passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville after a short illness.
Visitation was conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Oakdale Funeral Home in Parsons, with funeral services immediately after. Burial followed in Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson. Pallbearers were friends and family.
Chuck was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Jackson to the late James Phillip O’Bannon and Altona (Webb) O’Bannon. He married Linda (Rucker) O’Bannon on Dec. 11, 1983. She survives. Chuck was raised in Union City and was a graduate of Union City High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force with the Military Police. Chuck became a Military Working Dog Handler, working with the K-9 units, training and caring for the K-9 comrades. It instilled in him a life-long passion for caring for all pets, especially German Shepherds. After military service, Chuck attended and graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. His career in Pharmacy saw him do it all, from running a business to being a Director of Pharmacy for many hospitals.
Chuck enjoyed a vigorous gusto for friends, family, food, work, humorous things and pets. It was easy for Chuck to make friends with new acquaintances, and you always knew where you stood with him. Chuck liked his hair short, his drink strong, loved to be with friends telling stories and sharing a good laugh. The stories were many and the laughs even more. Chuck loved to cook and was a self-taught Pit Master, well renowned for the amazing meat and food he could make from one of his many cookers. Chuck was a life-long hunter and an expert shot. He hunted all over the United States, including West Virginia, Tennessee, Texas and Wyoming. He hunted Big Horn Sheep in the mountains of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. His love and knowledge of all types of firearms led him to become a certified instructor for trap and skeet shooting. He instilled a love of hunting, fishing and being outdoors into his son, as they shared many wonderful times doing all of these things. He was loved by many friends and family and he will be greatly missed.
He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Amy O’Bannon of Germantown; three grandchildren, Brooke O’Bannon of Chattanooga, Webb O’Bannon of Memphis and Cara O’Bannon of Nashville; one brother, Pat O’Bannon of Sugar Tree; one sister, Blanche O’Bannon of Franklin; and numerous extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by an infant son, James Anthony O’Bannon.
The family requests memorials be made to the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy or a charity of the donor’s choice.
