Jerry Burress

Mr. Jerry Burress, 92, a resident of Rives, died Feb. 5, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at White-Ranson Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Doughten will be officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Steve Rice, Dylan Burress, Hunter Rice, Eva Brewer, Lydia Brewer and Mike Clutter.
Mr. Burress was born on June 30, 1930, in Hornbeak to the late Carl and Eva (Weatherspoon) Burress. He worked as a painting contractor for 50 years. On March 27, 1953, he married Dorothy (Johnson) Burress, and he was married for 59 years. She preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2012.
He served in the U.S. Navy for seven years with the rank of Gunnersmate Second Class and was a member of VFW Post 4862.
The family requests memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Rice and her husband, Steve, of Union City and Brenda Brewer of Adamsville; daughter-in-law, Carla Burress of Hornbeak; six grandchildren, Becky Morgan of Carlisle, Pa., Hunter Rice of Dresden, Eva Brewer of Millington, Dylan Burress of Newbern, Anna Brewer of Memphis and Lydia Brewer of Memphis; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeff Burress; two brothers, Steve and Richard Burress; and two sisters, Helen Muse and Joyce Hamblen.
