GERMAN POW CAMP

GERMAN POW CAMP — This prison camp at Stalag IX, A, is where Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds of Tennessee and more than 1,200 other American prisoners of war were taken in 1945. Like many Tennesseans before and after him, Edmonds was a war hero. Due to his actions in a German POW camp in 1945, he is credited with saving countless Jewish soldiers. Memorial Day, which is May 25, is a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered.   Photo courtesy of Yad Vashem
