REVENGE WIN — Excel team members Austin Davis (in front of blue boat) of Dresden and Chris Posey (in back of blue boat) of Union City raised their paddles in victory after they, along with Emma Kate Adams of Martin, defeated The Whaley II Union City Fire Department team of Reed Logan (in front of the black and red boat) and Lynn Cox of South Fulton during the pre-built adult category of the Cardboard Boat Regatta at Discovery Park of America on Saturday. The Whaley II won the race between the two teams in 2025. Congratulating the Excel team was commodore John Watkins (right) of DPA. Keeping a watch on all the boaters from a kayak during the morning’s event was Union City firefighter Keith Rutkowski of Dresden. Other winners included pre-built youth: first place Sea Ya, second place Modern Art II and third place Koi-nd of Fast, which also won the President’s Choice Award; MacGyver Award for the winning cardboard boat which was built on site Saturday morning: Boring Old Boat; Van Gogh Award: Dubber Rucky; Titanic Award: Yo Momma Ark; and All Hands on Deck: Hope it Floats (Hope Center).
