IT’S IN THE BAG

IT’S IN THE BAG — Clara Elliott, who turns 5 today, juggled bags of rice as she helped her mom, Casey Elliott of Sharon, pack sacks of groceries for next week’s community-wide Feeding of the 5,000 event. They were among a group of volunteers from Crosswind Church in Union City who worked Monday in the domestic arts building at the Obion County Fairgrounds, where many other volunteers will be working daily this week. Feeding of the 5,000 — sponsored by the Obion County Ministerial Association — will be staged Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Refuge Church, which meets at the fairgrounds. The goal is to give away 1,500 bags of groceries free of charge to anyone in need across Obion County. Each bag contains enough food to feed a family of four. Feeding of the 5,000 will be followed by a special Thanksgiving Soul Food Café from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Refuge Church’s meeting location at the fairgrounds. The meal is free as well and is open to anyone who would benefit from a hot meal and fellowship with others.
