| NWA past and present draws big local crowd A sold-out building and standing-room-only crowd not only cheered on several NWA Warriors of Wrestling Federation legends, but also an action-packed card last weekend at the weekly card held on First Street in Union City. A meet-and-great with past superstars Tommy Gilbert, WWE Hall of Famer Rocky “Soulman” Johnson, masked star Lord Humongous was only part of the draw as the non-stop action was video recorded for future DVD retail sales, according to promoter Alvin Minnick. Results of the matches saw The Tornado beat “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony before the tag team of Naughty by Nature “Rude” and Joseph Bourne beat the EMTs. A three-decade, three-generation feud was evident in the next match as “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert and “3G” Eric Wayne battled all over the building — including in the concession stand — before Gilbert came away with the victory. Lord Humongous stopped “The Blues Man” Ike Tucker and Bull Bronson became the new NWA Mid-South Heavyweight champion when he dethroned Jon Michael. In the main event, NWA Heavyweight champ “Boom Boom” Colt Babana battled WLW World Heavyweight champ Jason “The Prince of Wrestling” Jones in a two-out-of-three fall match that ended with each man winning a fall and then both being counted out in the deciding fall. The result allowed each man to keep his respective title belt. This week’s matches will include Lord Humongous and Jon Michael, among others. Wynridge winners decided by scorecard Two teams deadlocked at 5-under-par, resulting a scorecard playoff in the weekly Wynridge ladies golf scramble Tuesday. When the dust settled, the foursome of Shelly Stout, Sandra Davis, Jackie Russell and Carlyne Wheatley took first place. Also shooting 5-under was the group of Theresa Harbor, Cathy Hall, Emily Belote and LeAnne Gantt. The ladies play every Tuesday at the Troy course. | | | | |
