Dennis Johnston
Dennis Ray Johnston, 76, of Union City passed away 6:03 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Jack Henry will officiate. Burial will follow in Stanley’s Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hart, Don Tucker, Michael Johnston, Eric Pinion, Sterlin Wright and H.D. Godwin III.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Johnston, Jasa Owens, Eric Owens, Kacee Warren, Tyler Marlow, David Godwin, Melvin Johnston, Darwin Williams, Kerry Carter, Don Marshall and Charlie Marshall.
Dennis was born Dec. 5, 1949, in Portageville, Mo., son of the late Robert Trent Johnston and Arah Imogene (Luker) Johnston Williams and Junior “Powell” Williams. He married Lucy (Winter) Johnston in April 2005. Dennis served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 30 years of service. Dennis enjoyed nature and being outdoors, riding horses, riding his motorcycle and had enjoyed boxing in his earlier years. Dennis spent many years preaching God’s word and served as minister of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church near Sharon for six years. He was currently attending Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the Crystal community.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Johnston of Union City; his daughter, Jennifer Godwin and husband, David, of Union City; his son, Jason Johnston of Union City; his stepson, Steve Wilson of Goodlettsville; five grandchildren, Kacee Warren and fiance’ Tyler Marlow of Union City, H.D. Godwin III of Union City, Jasa Owens and husband, Eric, of Samburg; Nathan Wilson and wife, Jasmine, of Orlando, Fla., and Karley Wilson of Clark, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Owens and Emberlynn Owens, both of Samburg; one sister, Susan Mayberry and husband, Dennis, of Murray, Ky.; and two brothers, Melvin Johnston and wife, Karen ,of Portageville, Mo., and Darwin Williams of Murray, Ky.
He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Mason Warren; and one sister, Donna Simmons.
