Tennessee first in the nation to address AI impact on music industry

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced plans to update Tennessee’s law to include protections for songwriters, performers, and music industry professionals’ voice from the misuse of artificial intelligence. Tennessee’s existing law already protects image and likeness.

“From Beale Street to Broadway and beyond, Tennessee is known for our rich artistic heritage that tells the story of our great state,” said Gov. Lee. “As the technology landscape evolves with artificial intelligence, we’re proud to lead the nation in proposing legal protection for our best-in-class artists and songwriters.”

On Wednesday, January 10, Gov. Lee will be joined by legislative leadership, artists, songwriters, and music industry stakeholders in Nashville to announce the legislation.

Due to spatial and parking limitations, media must RSVP to Elizabeth.L.Johnson@tn.gov by close of business on Tuesday, January 9 to receive full event details.
