Woman in custody after overnight shooting in downtown Martin

Early Wednesday morning, at approximately 1:56 a.m., the Martin Police Department responded to Church Street for shots fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed 42 year old victim Jason Harrell in a physical altercation with 40 year old Freda Holmes in the parking lot of Cadillac’s Bar.

After an investigation, officers learned that a verbal altercation escalated into Holmes brandishing a handgun and shooting Harrell while he was sitting in his vehicle. The two then struggled at which time another shot was fired.

Officers arrested Holmes at the scene and Harrell was transported to Volunteer Community Hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at time of this release.

Holmes has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment (Serious Injury or Use of a Deadly Weapon).

Johnny Nanney, owner of Cadillac’s, said that when the shooting occurred, his business was not open and that the two persons involved in the incident were not patrons of Cadillac’s.

Martin Police said the incident is still under investigation and additional charges may be filed.
