Four candidates applied for Weakley County Schools Superintendent position

Story by Shannon Taylor Senior Investigative Reporter

The Weakley County School board announced that four candidates have applied for the superintendent position. The current Director, Randy Frazier, will be retiring in June of this year after serving for 14 years as Director and 37 in the school system.

School Board Chairman Steve Vantrease named the four candidates at the special-called meeting held Monday, March 13. The candidates are East Colma-Nelson School District Superintendent Chris Lensing from Rock Falls, Illinois, Greenfield Principal Jeff Cupples, Gleason Principal Lee Lawrence and Assistant Director of Weakley County Schools Betsi Foster.

After approximately 30 minutes of discussion the board voted to hold a public meet and greet for the candidates on Monday, March 27 at 10 a.m. at the Board of Education building which will be followed by public interviews of all four candidates by members of the school board. The board also plans to hold a planning meeting on Tuesday, March 29 to confer and evaluate the candidates interviews and applications.

The public is encouraged to attend.

It doesn’t seem right that the public meeting of candidates for whom may be over the school system will be held at a time that teachers will not be able to attend.

I believe these meetings should be held at a time when parents that work plus teachers could attend these meetings. The school board meets at night so why is a mid morning meeting being held for such an important issue. It should be held when the most people could attend.
