Dresden BZA approves fence

On Nov. 30 the Dresden Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) met to discuss a resident, Betsy McDaniel, wanting to place a privacy fence between her and her neighbor on Beyer Street.

McDaniel requested to place a fence from the corner post of her carport to the edge of the property while keeping distance between the end of the fence and the right-of-way. Since the fence is extended into the front yard, she had to request permission from the BZA. McDaniel noted that the fence would not be put across the front of the house, but only along one side of her property.

Dresden’s staff planner, Donny Bunton, said that as long as it meets the provisions which included if the proposed fence would create any line-of-sight obstructions for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, not exceed a height of 3.5 feet and not built on any neighboring property lines.

McDaniel had originally requested the height of the fence to be eight feet but do to BZA restrictions she accepted that it could only be 3.5 feet.

Public Works Director Josh Lassiter went by the property and placed a flag in her yard that would be out of the right-of-way and would not obstruct the view of traffic. He placed it just short of the WK&T box which was away from the water lines and WK&T line and should still be fine for view of traffic from the driveways.

After reading what Bunton said the board said that they understood and that it was “cut and dry.” The board voted and unanimously approved to let McDaniel place the fence between her property and her neighbors as long as all guidelines set were followed.
