Fugitive from justice apprehended by WCSD

Story by Press Reporter Shannon Taylor
On Oct. 23 at 5:41 p.m., Dep. Gary Eddings attempted to stop a black Harley Davidson motorcycle for speeding 55 mph in a 45mph on Highway 45 heading south bound on Wallace Road.
Eddings turned his blue lights and siren on as the motorcycle continued south and turned on Rowlett Road, pulling into 7400 Highway 45 before coming to a stop.
Eddings then came into contact with the driver, Jason Sawyers, 41 years of age, and advised him that the reason for stopping him was because of speeding and the motorcycle not having a tag on it.
After Eddings checked Sawyers driver’s license, Eddings found that Sawyers license was revoked due to a DUI arrest in Carlisle County, KY and he had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation from Carlisle County from the DUI charge with a $10,000 cash bond. Sawyers also had another bench warrant out of Ballard County, KY circuit court with a $25,000 cash bond with full extradition in all 50 states as well as a failure to appear warrant out of Weakley County General Sessions Court.
According to the incident report, Sawyers has a three-page criminal history from previous arrest and driving without a license. The motorcycle Sawyers was driving had the VIN# spray painted over in both locations, the ignition switch was knocked out and the title he had was from a deceased person and it was not dated on the date of sale on the title.
The motorcycle was towed by Alpha Towing to their lot. Sawyers was charged with driving on a revoked license 3rd offense, speeding, registration violation, financial responsibility and fugitive from justice. He is currently being held at the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
