NEW CHIEF

NEW CHIEF — Newly-hired Union City Police Chief Ben Yates took his oath of office from city clerk Tracy Gore at mid-morning Tuesday in the courtroom at the Union City Police Department. Yates will succeed retiring Union City Police Chief Perry Barfield, whose final work day will be today as he closes out his 391⁄2-year law enforcement career on New Year’s Eve. After the swearing-in ceremony, Barfield presented Yates his chief’s badge. Yates most recently worked as an agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He was formerly on the UC police force and was assigned to the 27th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

God bless you, Chief. I pray that the correspondence we had several weeks ago will be fruitful. And that you will please give me a confirmation letter of the false police report that you said is not in the system. Since I like working with young people, the letter will be great asset to my future work transactions in the community.
