NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE

NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE — Waylon and Maria Matheny of the Protemus community, along with their son, Logan, have been named honorary chairmen of this year’s Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope, set for Sept. 25 from 3-11 p.m. at the Obion County fairgrounds. The couple’s 7-year-old son, Landon, died June 9 of an inoperable cancerous brain tumor. They were presented with the first Walk of Hope T-shirts for this year at a team captains’ meeting Tuesday evening. The T-shirts include Landon’s name and handprint, along with the Walk of Hope logo, this year’s slogan, “In Obion County, No One Fights Alone,” and a list of sponsors. Walk of Hope executive director Lorraine Jones said this is the first time there has been a family named as honorary chairmen, as well as the first year that a cancer patient’s family has been named. She shared how when selecting the theme of this year’s event, she thought about the Mathenys and other families in the county who have had medical fights on their hands and their friends, neighbors and strangers came forward to provide what was needed for them. “In Obion County, you don’t have to fight alone. It’s a perfect saying for a perfect family,” Mrs. Jones said. T-shirts are available to purchase for $15 each at the Walk of Hope office, located at 902 Perkins St. in Union City. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
