Several community churches have joined forces to form the Ken-Tenn Foodbank Inc., a non-profit organization which will distribute commodities to the needy in Fulton County, Ky.
Member churches include Parkway Church of Christ, Trinity Episcopal, First United Methodist and Greater Antioch Baptist churches in Fulton and Union Church, Cayce United Methodist Church and Brooks Chapel in Fulton County.
Distribution is currently done monthly at Fulton First United Methodist Church to 85 seniors older than 60 with incomes below the poverty line.
The Twin Cities Men’s Organization has donated its building on Washington Street in Fulton to the Ken-Tenn Foodbank and it will be used for storage and future distributions. Currently, repairs need to be made to the building before it can be used and additional funds are needed to cover utilities.
Food is provided by the Purchase Area Development District from government commodities. Future plans include expansion of food distribution to other needy households in Fulton County and will include distribution of frozen and refrigerated food items, including meats, according to Twin Cities Chamber of Commerce executive director Thea Vowell.
The foodbank is currently accepting monetary donations, which may be sent to Ken-Tenn Foodbank Inc., P.O. Box 1274, Fulton, KY 42041. All those working with the foodbank are volunteers.
For more information, address questions to the P.O. box and they will be answered promptly, according to Mrs. Vowell.
