REMEMBERING
REMEMBERING — It was an historic night in Samburg with the first meeting of the mayor and board of aldermen in the city’s new City Hall complex Monday. The more than half-million dollar complex was built after Samburg’s previous City Hall building was destroyed in a December 2021 tornado that swept through the city. Prior to the start of Monday’s meeting, alderman Ray Tolley (from left) was joined by city recorder Alma Riddle and alderman Mitchell Goree as they checked out a City Hall sign that came from the previous building and now hangs in the new City Hall complex. The sign was found by Darryl Elrod of the Crescent Church of Christ in Christiana. He was one of many volunteers who turned out to help the Samburg clean up after the tornado. The sign still has mud smeared all over it as a reminder of the tornado’s impact on the city. Samburg Mayor Tim “Timbo” Smith announced Monday night he wants to decorate the City Hall complex with historically significant photographs from Samburg’s past.
