JUST CHILLIN’

JUST CHILLIN’ — University of Tennessee at Martin students (from left) Emmy Merrell of Union City, Lynlee Riggins and Alunna Sain reacted to the 25-degree water temperature Saturday morning while taking a dip to benefit Upper West Tennessee Special Olympics in the 15th annual Polar Plunge at Aloha Pools and Spas in Union City. The air temp was about 40 degrees and breezy. Many of this year’s plungers represented schools in the area, among them UTM and several local elementary, middle or high schools. The event raised a total of $31,006 for Special Olympics, once again shattering an initial goal of $20,000. Funds raised will benefit more than 400 athletes in Special Olympics activities in Obion, Weakley, Lake, Henry and Carroll counties.
