Dorothy Brown
Dorothy Jane (Cutler) Brown, 81, of Eads passed away peacefully on Aug. 22, 2025.
Born on April 9, 1944, in Union City to the late Horace and Ellen (Wright) Cutler, Dorothy grew up in Obion, alongside her siblings Jere Cutler, Shirley (Cutler) Fox and Chip Cutler, who all preceded her in death.
She was the proud mother of Allen Brown of Eads and his beloved wife, Carey. Dorothy’s greatest joy was being “Doe Doe” to her three grandchildren — Kaitlyn, Conner and Will — whom she loved like no other. She was also very fond of her nieces and nephews, LeEllen (Fox) Smith, Tim Fox, Ann (Cutler) Hime, Renee (Cutler) Webber and a long list of great-nieces and nephews. Her family, both near and far, was always the center of her world and she embraced new technology as much as possible in order to keep up with everyone as time and life’s changes made it harder to stay close contact.
Dorothy began her working career at The Commercial Bank in Obion, where she spent 19 years before anxiously moving herself and Allen to Memphis in order to expand his opportunities. She worked at Whirlpool Credit Union briefly before finding her favorite role at the Hardwood Market Report, where she dedicated her final 27 years of employment before declining health forced her to reluctantly retire.
She loved cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, vacationing with her family and participating in anything involving her grandchildren or extended family. She will be dearly missed but remembered for her warmth, her devotion to family and her kind, steady presence.
A service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 pm, at Corner Stone Community Church (formerly Obion Methodist Church). Tripp Crane, Jimmy Smith and Tim Fox will conduct the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Zion Cemetery, Greg Ervin, 4893 Jim Carver Road, Obion, TN 38240 or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
