Lew Solmon

Lewis Eron “Lew” Solmon, age 86, a resident of Troy, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as well as a true friend to many. Born Nov. 25, 1938, in Obion County to Evelyn Mobbs Solmon and Merrel Solmon, Lew lived a life marked by service, dedication and unwavering commitment to his community and church.
Lew graduated from Dixie High School in Obion County in 1958 and proudly served for 15 years in the National Guard as a Combat Engineer with Company A, 110th Engineer Battalion. Lew embarked on a long and respected career with Jim Kizer Chevrolet, where he was hired on the very first day of business and served many years as service manager. He continued his career as service manager with Rick Hill Nissan before retiring.
After retirement, Lew continued to contribute to his community by driving a bus for Obion County Schools for 15 years. Lew often spoke of his love for all the children who rode his bus, and he treated them like his own. He also worked for three years with the Obion County Emergency Communications District as a 9-1-1 Operator. Lew’s public service extended into local government as a Troy City Alderman for six years. He was a devoted member and past president of the Troy Lions Club, a 25-year member and past Worshipful Master of the Troy Masonic Lodge #88, and an active member of the Order of Eastern Star #432, where he proudly served as Worthy Patron many times.
A passionate craftsman, Lew enjoyed refinishing furniture and woodworking in his spare time. He was also known for restoring the gym floor logo from the former Troy Elementary School, where his sons attended school. It now hangs in the Troy Community Center, a testament to his love for woodworking and his community.
Lew generously shared his time and talents as a past board member of Obion County Crime Stoppers and the Easter Seals Child Development Services Board of Martin. A faithful member of Troy Methodist Church, he served in many offices and was deeply committed to his faith.
Lew married his beloved wife, Nancy Brown Solmon, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. They are survived by their sons, Bobby Solmon (Chris) and Greg Solmon; granddaughter, Morgan Solmon (Jeff Nunnery); and great-grandchildren, Katey Laine Thomason and Maverick Nunnery. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul Solmon; and one sister, Novie Cochran. Lew also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Extended Care personnel and the Acute Care Unit at Baptist Hospital in Union City for their compassionate and excellent care.
Lew Solmon’s legacy of service, kindness and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him.
