Rosemary Yandell
Rosemary Yandell, 99, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Shannondale of Maryville.
Rosemary was born Rosemary Carolyn Wheatley to Hoyt and Marie (Hartman) Wheatley on April 23, 1925. She married the love of her life, Edgar Leroy Yandell, on June 5, 1943, in Blytheville, Ark., where Edgar was serving in the military and soon to deploy to the Pacific Theater of World War II as a B-29 pilot.
Rosemary had a deep and lasting faith in the steadfast love of God, and she was committed to passing that faith to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spoke often of the love of God in Jesus and the anointing of the Holy Spirit to anyone who would listen. She prayed and read the Bible ceaselessly, always intent on learning new lessons.
She and Edgar were members of First Christian Church, Union City, for decades. They profoundly influenced multiple generations through their commitments to teaching and ministering to others in the church and in the community.
Throughout her life, Rosemary loved to break bread with her family and friends. She would make a day of it, driving everyone together to restaurants scattered throughout Tennessee and usually with a shopping trip added before or after the meal. Thanksgiving and Christmas meals with all the family in her home, and later in the home of her son Edgar Jr. and Becky Yandell, were especially meaningful for her.
She is survived by her sons, John (Jane) and Allen; grandchildren, Edgar “Tri” the third (Kelley), Arrah (J.T.), Michael (Amy), Christopher (Bethany), Bradley (Coco), Luke and his mother, Lana; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; son Edgar Jr., (Becky – surviving); parents, Marie and Hoyt; siblings, Justine and Jimmy; niece, Marie; granddaughter, Tammy; and daughters-in-law, Janet, Janie and Brenda.
A celebration of Rosemary’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, Union City, with Rev. Dr. Michael Yandell presiding and Rev. Elaine Blanchard bidding welcome and greetings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to the Gideons at: The Gideons International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251.
