Paula Smith

Paula C. Smith, 74, of Union City passed away 5:20 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
A celebration of life visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Paula was born June 8, 1948, in Murray, Ky., daughter of Jessie Catherine (Miller) Cook of Louisville, Ky., and the late Robert Russell Cook. She married Tommy “Cotton” Smith Feb. 14, 2013. He survives.
Paula graduated from Calloway County High School in 1966. She graduated from Murray State University, where she earned 30 hours over her Master’s in Education. Paula taught at Memphis State Community College from 1976 to 1978. She taught at Hickman County, Ky., Schools for over 40 years. Paula had been the office secretary for Dale Bryant Installations for the past seven years. She taught many different levels from kindergarten to high school, also having taught the gifted and talented students. Paula was a member of Hazel Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and in a quartet. She had been active in Masquerade Theater in Union City and was an avid reader up until her eyesight became an issue. Paula enjoyed spending time with her daughter and grandson.
She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Rance Jones of Union City; one grandson, Tanner Byars of Mayfield, Ky.; one stepson, Micah Smith and wife, Jen, of Mayfield; two stepgrandchildren, Brady Smith and Addaley Smith, both of Mayfield; one sister, Regina Cook-Pfeiffer and husband, Dave, of Louisville, Ky.; and two nephews, Christopher Pfeiffer of Louisville, Ky., and Michael Pfeiffer of Sellersburg, Ind.
