Martin Board passes multiple resolutions
Story by Shannon Taylor, Senior Investigative Reporter
The Martin board passed Resolution 2023-03. The city of Martin desires to apply for financial grant assistance as provided under the state of Tennessee’s fiscal year 2023 small cities community development block grant CDBG program. The board of aldermen of the city of Martin says it’s in the cities best interest to secure the assistance of an experienced and qualified administrative management services firm to assist in preparing and administrating the cities 2023 CDBG application. The board determined that Community Development Partners (CDP) has the most appropriate experience, background and qualifications to provide those services. CDP will conduct the work necessary to complete the CDBG application at a no-cost basis and in the event the project is successfully paid, CDP will assist in the administration of the project.
The board held the introduction and first reading of Ordinance 2023-01. This ordinance amends certain portions of the city of Martin’s personnel policy. On Nov. 28, 2011, adopted a personnel policy regarding employee benefits. The board voted unanimously to amend that policy regarding the health benefits section of Public Safety employees which will now read that upon termination of services or termination of employment due to retirement, firefighters and police officers who qualify would be eligible for continued health, vision and dental insurance benefits. In order to be eligible for continued benefits the retired employee must meet certain criteria which includes that their participation in health, vision and dental will be terminated on their 65th birthday. This is 100% employee pay out, the city pays nothing. A public hearing will be held on May 8 at 5:15 in the city courtroom.
The University Street lighting project bid cost was $508,704. This was passed unanimously.
The Westview Lady Chargers were supposed to be at the meeting, but they were at a game and their presence would be rescheduled for another time according to Mayor Randy Brundige.
The next board meeting is set for May 8 at 5:15.
