Community Concerns with Shannon

Our next question comes from Beverly Lewis of Dresden. She asked, “Why is it taking so long to rebuild the square at Dresden? It’s been over a year, and nothing has been done.”

Beverly, there have been numerous meetings over the past year to go over blueprints with A2H engineers and the final blueprints for the exterior were approved on March 9 with a vote of 5-1. The interior design was approved some months ago with a tentative start date of April this year.

As far as progress on the loan for the 8-million-dollar project, the board of mayor and alderman have not yet secured one and at the last board meeting Mayor Mark Maddox said that they have asked for proposals to fund the project and some of those have been returned in order to see which ones the board wants to move forward with.

I reached out to Maddox, and he responded with, “we will discuss those options and a tentative start date at April’s board meeting.” The board meeting is scheduled for April 3 at 6 pm at Dresden City Hall.
