Dallas Davis sentenced

Dallas Davis had a status hearing on Friday Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. at Weakley County Circuit Court. During that hearing Davis accepted a plea agreement after negotiations with the District Attorney’s office that he felt was in his best interest.

Davis was not indicted for aggravated assault on an officer which carries a minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison, regardless of any prior convictions. For aggravated assault of a police officer, the minimum sentence is five years, with a maximum of 25 – this can be extended to life in prison for persistent felony offenders.

Davis was indicted on charges of evading arrest and possession of a handgun.

Davis was represented by attorney Paul Hutcherson from Dresden who requested service of notices and pleadings and Assistant District Attorney Kate Bynum gave notice of “its intent to impeach the defendant upon him testifying at trial with the following criminal convictions: Theft in the Circuit Court of Shelby County.” This means that Bynum was prepared to cast doubt on Davis’s credibility by means of introducing a prior conviction for a crime involving dishonesty/moral turpitude.

Bynum also requested discovery and inspection of photographs books, papers, documents and tangible objects that are in possession of the defendant (Davis) that he intends to introduce as evidence.

Davis’s plea agreement gave him 90 days in jail with state probation of two years.
