Gleason man arrested for food assistance theft and fraud

On Feb. 8 Investigator Kyle Watkins was contacted by Patrolman Travis regarding a case the Dresden Police Department was investigating. Travis stated that the victim did not give anyone permission to use his food stamp card with his name on it and that it had been stolen and used multiple times in Gleason. The card was used by a white male identified in the security footage of Dresden Dollar General as 43-year-old Donald Ray Shell.

Shell obtained a food stamp card belonging to the victim and used the card six times on Feb. 7 in the amounts of $34.80, $74.42, $75.25, $15.42, $506.39 and $19.14. Shell stated that the victim sold him the card for $350.00 cash.

Shell made the transactions knowing that he was not authorized by the card holder to do so. The District Attorney’s office advised to aggregate all the transactions. The total amount stolen was $725.42.

Shell has been charged with fraudulent receipt of food assistance, theft of services and identity theft.

DISCLOSER: Information obtained came from the Gleason Police Department affidavit provided by Investigator Kyle Watkins.
