Sharon woman charged with child abuse
On Feb. 13 at 10:05 p.m. Chief Mark Kimsey with the Sharon Police Department was called to Hunt Street for a domestic incident. Upon arrival, Justin Freeman and his girlfriend, 34-year-old Peggy Roney had gotten into a verbal altercation at their residence. Towards the end of their altercation, Roney attempted to leave, forcing her and her two children into her vehicle.
During this time, Roney began striking her two children, who stated that she struck them several times in the head and back. One child stated that she choked him. Kimsey observed red marks on the child’s face and back, consistent with the story and strikes.
Roney fled the scene after the children ran and yelled and got their grandmother and called the police.
Upon further investigation, Roney traveled erratically at speeds between 60 and 70 mph on a city street posted at 40 mph with three young children in the vehicle with no safety restraints being used. Also, while driving, Roney nearly drove into a ditch and almost struck a guard rail while the three children were with her wearing no seatbelt.
Roney has been charged with reckless endangerment, child abuse and domestic assault.
DISCLOSER: Information obtained came from the Sharon Police Department affidavit provided by Chief Mark Kimsey.
