Gleason man arrested on meth and multiple other charges

Michael Jeffrey Wright
On Jan. 3 at 8:26 p.m. Deputy Gary Eddings with the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department stopped a gray Dodge van on Highway 22 in front of the Sheriff’s Department. After running the tag, it came back on a white Ford Taurus.
The driver, Michael Jeffrey Wright of Gleason, was informed of the reasoning for the traffic stop and Wright stated that he had taken the plate off another vehicle and had no insurance on the van.
Wright’s license came back suspended for unpaid citations out of Milan city court on Nov. 19, 2021, and Wright had been previously arrested for driving on suspended on Aug. 21, 2022, from the Gleason Police Department.
Wright was placed under arrest and asked if there was anything illegal in the van and he stated that there was not and that Eddings could search it. Wright had two female passengers who were asked to exit and if there was anything illegal in the van. Both passengers stated that as soon as Wright knew he was being pulled over that he threw a meth pipe out of the window and that he also tried handing the women a small plastic baggy with what they believed to be meth in it. Both women stated that they would not take the bag, so Wright threw it in the backseat. Both women wrote statements attesting that to be true.
The baggy was located with assistance from Dresden PD Officer Lane Vargas and inside the bag was .6 grams of crystal meth. Officers searched along the highway area where Wright threw out the meth pipe, but never located it due to traffic and darkness.
Wright was charged with simple possession of Schedule II, driving on a suspended license 2nd offense, violation of registration law and financial responsibility.
DISCLOSER: Information obtained came from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department affidavit provided by Deputy Gary Eddings.
