Couple obtained hotel room by impersonating Martin PD Investigator
On Dec. 22 at 10:47 a.m. the Martin Police Department responded to Hampton Inn in reference to a couple obtaining a room utilizing the name Investigator Sarah Turner. Someone at the hotel knew Turner and figured out that the woman who booked the room was not Turner, but 30-year-old Elizabeth Sappington, who called the hotel stating that she was Turner so that she could obtain a room for her and her boyfriend, 41-year-old Stephen Nugent.
Further investigation revealed that Nugent had knowledge that his girlfriend unlawfully obtained a hotel room by using the name “Investigator Sarah Turner.”
It was also discovered that Nugent had stayed in the room and placed a small bag containing what was believed to be methamphetamine on the side of the bed.
The total amount of restitution owed to Hampton Inn is $150.81. Nugent has been charged with theft of services and simple possession/casual exchange. Sappington has been charged with criminal impersonation and theft of services.
