MEMORIAL SALUTE — National Wreaths Across America Day was held across the United States Saturday, with more than 2.4 million wreaths placed beside headstones of veterans. More than 1,300 were placed in cemeteries in Obion and Weakley counties, including at Sunset Cemetery in Dresden, Eastside Cemetery in Martin and Beulah Cemetery in Union City. Three volleys were fired during the ceremony in Union City by reenactors (from right) Scott Parker of Mayfield Ky., with the 46th Tennessee Infantry Regiment; and Tristin Morris of Hickman, Ky., Benjamin Meter of New Concord, Ky., and Wayne Tate of Kevil, Ky., with the 7th Kentucky Infantry Regiment. They were led by Barry Sowell of Woodland Mills with the 7th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. Harry Weatherly (far left) placed a wreath at the mass grave of Confederate soldiers during the ceremony. Pastor Austin Norton offered opening and closing prayers and Tucker Pounds played “Taps” during the ceremony.
