Amanda Steffen

Story by Shannon Taylor Senior Investigative Reporter

On Nov. 26 around 12:22 a.m. Patrolman David Sliger with Greenfield Police Department was dispatched to 25 East Main Cove in Greenfield in reference to a subject who was having breathing problems and stating that she was going to die.

Upon arrival, Sliger observed the woman, 35-year-old Amanda Steffen, acting very erratically. Steffen stated she was God and she was going to die, stating that she had taken meth and stated that she liked it a lot.

Steffen was in no shape to take care of her children that were located at the residence, ages 12 and 5, due to her drug induced intoxication.

Sliger placed Steffen under arrest for public intoxication and two counts of child abuse and neglect. She was transported to the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office.

EMS personnel and Sheriff’s deputies stayed at the scene with the children until Sliger could return. Contact was made with both children’s biological fathers and the children were released to them.
