HEED Committee approves multiple resolutions

The Weakley County Health, Education and Economic Development Committee (HEED) met Nov. 16 to discuss multiple resolutions.

The first resolution covered special education money. Director of Weakley County Schools Randy Frazier stated, “we had a change-we were contracting with a school system to transport a child of ours to the school for the deaf in Jackson, but that child is no longer going so we moved that money back.”

The second resolution covered federal money and Frazier stated, “we’re having so much federal money that is flowing through with all of the grants and those are reimbursables and they are not timely enough to get to trustees offices so it causes us at times to be in the red and that is an audit finding so we’re just moving some money out of the fund balance-$300,000-into restricted account which will keep us from ever being in red.”

The third resolution concerned a grant that the Weakley County Archives received in the amount of $4,998, which they plan to use to buy shelving with rollers.

The fourth resolution was regarding the grant that the Weakley County Office on Aging received from TCAD (Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability) for $8,000. This money will help cover food supplies for seniors in both Dresden and Sharon.

The last resolution was for an educational incentive which would pay employees for certain continuing education courses and certifications. The amount was for $2,000 and this resolution covers two employees who would receive $1,000 each for education and certification to perform duties at a higher quality.

All resolutions were approved unanimously by the board.
