Jones-Walker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862 auxiliary members Pamela Crone (above, left) and Sheila Fortner prepared the POW/MIA table, also known as Missing Man Table, for a Veterans Day program hosted at the local post at 11 a.m. Friday.
The tradition of setting a separate table in honor of prisoners of war and missing comrades has been in place since the end of the Vietnam War. The manner in which this table is decorated is with a white tablecloth, a single candle, a book of faith, an inverted glass and a single red rose in a vase, around which is tied a red or yellow ribbon. These special symbols are meant to help viewers remember America’s brothers and sisters in arms.
