Newbern woman arrested in Dresden on multiple charges

Lacy Belcher

Story by Senior Investigative Reporter Shannon Taylor

On Nov. 9 around 10:30 a.m., 24-year-old Lacy Belcher was brought into the Weakley County Detention Center on an arrest by Trooper Harrison from Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) on DUI charges.

Belcher was pat searched upon arrival by Officer Jaggers and then a full body x-ray scan was performed by the TEC 84 x-ray machine operated by Jaggers according to the Detention Center policy.

The scan showed that there was something abnormal around the waistband area of Belcher. Belcher was then escorted to the search room to be dressed out in a Detention Center issued uniform. At this time, the contraband was found.

One small bag of white crystal-like substance was taken by Jaggers. At this time, Chief Deputy Candice Winstead was contacted about the contraband. The substance was field tested for methamphetamine and tested positive. The bag and substance weighed 1.9 grams.

Winstead then spoke with the arresting officer, Harrison, who stated that while he was on the scene, he asked Belcher if she had anything illegal on her and she stated no. Harrison also stated to Belcher that if she did and something was found on her at the Detention Center that she would receive another charge.

Belcher was charged with introduction of drugs into a jail, DUI, possession of Schedule II, failure to exercise due care, failure to provide proof of insurance, registration not signed and carried, seatbelt law and violation of implied consent.
