Dresden man escapes after officer attempts to arrest him

Oshay Chrisp

Story by Senior Investigative Reporter Shannon Taylor

On Oct. 27 at approximately 7:49 p.m. Sergeant Rodney Wright with the Dresden Police Department was dispatched to 459 Highway 118 in reference to a suspicious person outside the property.

Upon arrival, Wright found a black male identified as Oshay Chrisp and a white female identified as Keeondra Boyd outside the apartment. Wright told Chrisp and Boyd why he was there and after identifying both subjects Wright had the county check the subjects for warrants. Both parties stated that they did not live at the apartments but were waiting for a ride.

Weakley County Constable Brandon Odle then arrived on the scene as a backup officer and was witness to the events and he was able to confirm Chrisp’s identity from personal knowledge.

Weakley County Dispatch confirmed Chrisp was wanted in Stewart County and confirmed that Stewart County would pick Chrisp up if they took him into custody. Wright then told Chrisp that Stewart County had a warrant for his arrest and that they were going to pick him up and for him to place his hands on his head.

As Wright began to pat Chrisp down for weapons, Chrisp stated that he had a glass bowl in his pocket and that it was loaded with methamphetamine. Wright directed him to remove it from his pocket, which he did, and Wright continued to pat him down.

When Wright attempted to handcuff Chrisp, he broke and took off running, evading arrest on foot. Wright retrieved the glass bowl and bagged it for evidence. Chrisp was not seen after running and searching the area.
