Kustoff makes stop in Weakley County on four-day bus tour story

Story by Press Reporter Shannon Taylor

On Monday, Oct. 24, Congressman David Kustoff launched a four-day bus tour through West Tennessee’s Eighth Congressional District. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, he stopped at the Weakley County Republican Headquarters in Martin to discuss his campaign and voting on Nov. 8.

One thing that was mentioned was the constitutional amendments on the ballot for Nov. 8. Voters must vote in the governor’s race in order for their vote to be counted when they vote for the amendments on the ballot. Kustoff urged everyone to support all four of the amendments on the ballot.

Kustoff thanked everyone for attending and reminded everyone that election day is only two weeks away. “Which means in 15 days we’re firing Nancy Pelosi.

Kustoff spoke on the things he hears the most from people and he said that what he hears the most is inflation, including the high cost of living, groceries, gas and housing prices. “We have the highest inflation now that we’ve had in 40 years. It feels a lot like the Jimmy Carter days. You think about what Biden did when he went into office-like within a few days-you remember he killed the keystone pipeline-he disincentivized American energy companies from wanting to produce oil and gas. So, we went from being a country where we were producing more here in the United States to today where we’re importing more than we’re exporting and that’s raised the price of everything.”

Kustoff mentioned that in Washington, there has been three big expenditures going back to March of last year. “There was a bill, Biden called it the American Rescue Plan, 1.9 trillion dollars of brand-new Federal spending. Then in November of last year there was another big bill of a trillion dollars and back in August the bill that Pelosi called the inflation reduction act, which is really the inflation enhancement act, 745 billion dollars, again-all new Federal money-this is money that the Government is printing and flushing into the economy so it can’t do anything but cause an inflationary effect.” Kustoff stated that people were hurting today because of the inflation effect.

Kustoff said that crime was another big issue that hears people talking about and he said it wasn’t just in big cities, but all across West Tennessee and the country. “At the national level, when the bad guys hear defund the police-what message does that send the bad guys? We’ve got to stop that. There’s a very vocal side from the Democrats that talk about that and we’ve got to stop it.”

The last thing Kustoff brought up that he feels people are concerned with was the border. “We’ve got a real crisis at the border. I’ve been under President Trump, I’ve been under Biden, and it’s bad.”

Kustoff mentioned the fentanyl in the country stating, “The majority of the fentanyl that we see in the country right now is coming through our southern border and it’s killing people in record numbers. We’ve got enough fentanyl in this country right now to kill every single one of us seven times over. That’s a scary fact. The only way to stop it is by enforcing what comes through at the southern border and stop that unlawful migration. To stop the cartels and to give those border patrol agents the support that they need.”

Kustoff said that he feels really good about taking back the United States House of Representatives. Kustoff said that they will win a congressional seat in Rhode Island, which is an extremely blue state according to Kustoff. He also mentioned Oregon, also a blue state, stating, “We’ve got a really good shot at winning one, maybe two, congressional seats in the state of Oregon and that should tell people something.”

Kustoff fells like he’s done a good job not only talking about the problems America is facing, but in discussing solutions. “One of the very first things we’re going to do in January, when Nancy Pelosi passes off that speakers gavel, we’re going to recall the funding for those 80,000 IRS agents that the dems voted in.”

Kustoff stated that what people can do is to not leave any vote on the table. “Everybody has got to go vote and not take anything for granted. Start with the governor and the constitutional amendments and go all the way down. Make sure your family goes to vote. Make sure your friends and the people you work with and the people you worship with go vote. If we do those things, we’re going to capture the House of Representatives. This is an important election because this sets the stage for November of 2024.”

Election Day is Tuesday Nov. 8.
