During the Greenfield city board meeting, a citizen commended senior citizens’ center director Marilyn Pugh for her efforts with the center and with the chili luncheon during the fire prevention festival that sold about 25 more servings than in years past.

Mayor Cindy McAdams said Pugh had reported profits of more than $1,000 for the fundraising event in addition to more than $300 for the ham. McAdams also said the senior center’s bus was sold for $5,100. The search for suitable, affordable transportation for the center actively continues.

Fire Chief Bob Dudley reported a successful Fire Prevention Festival and expressed humble gratitude to everyone who assisted in making the event as great as it was. Library director Kathy Watson reported a $50 profit from the book sale and has an upcoming pumpkin decorating contest that will be held the first week of November. There will be three age groups (5-8, 9-11 and 12-14) for the contest. The library also received a solar charger that will allow people to have a spot to charge phones and laptops and will soon be ready for patrons to use.

The board received a bid for streaming equipment in the amount of $3,066.76 from Lowrance Sound Company out of Union City. This would give the city the ability to stream and/or record public meetings or events for citizens to watch with ease for the operator, which has been an ongoing discussion over the last three months. The bid includes the equipment (which has separate warranties), installation, training and one year of troubleshooting. After some discussion with a company representative, alderman Bobby Morris made a motion to accept the bid. The motion carried 5-1 with alderman Mark Galey opposed.

In other news, Morris said he had received inquiries about the city taxes. He did some research that showed local profits of $49,996. “What this tells us is that more people are shopping local and our businesses are doing well,” Morris said.

Before adjourning, McAdams announced the retirement of public works employee Brad Goodlow, who will retire Oct. 31 after 28 years of service to the city.

She also invited everyone to the communitywide trunk or treat Oct. 29 from 4-6 p.m. on Front Street.

Congratulations were given to Alvin and Lora Thomas, who were awarded Yard of the Month at 211 E. Main St.
