Welfare check leads to drug and weapon arrest

On Oct. 13 at approximately 10:37 a.m. Ptl. Austin Wynn of Martin Police Department (MPD) responded to a welfare check at Manpower on 201 University St. in Martin.

Upon Wynn’s arrival, he made contact with the 23-year-old Keilan Rooks who had a warrant out of Weakley County for failure to appear. Wynn noted that Rooks was also in possession of a firearm, a Taurus Millennium PT 145, which was stolen out of Carroll County. Rooks was also a felon for an aggravated burglary conviction on May 13. 2019 out of Weakley County Circuit Court.

Wynn also found a small bag containing a crystal-like substance in the center console believed to be Schedule II. Rooks was taken to MPD without incident for booking procedures and then transported to Weakley County Sheriff’s Office.

Rooks was charged with an arrest warrant, theft of property (firearm), unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon and schedule II drug violations.
