MAYOR RETIRES

MAYOR RETIRES — Obion County Mayor Benny McGuire greeted county property assessor Judy Smith as she arrived at his retirement reception Friday afternoon at the courthouse annex where his office is located. A large number of friends, family members and local officials stopped by during the come-and-go event. McGuire officially retires Wednesday after serving 16 years — four consecutive terms — as mayor, making him the county’s longest-serving county mayor. The county commission recently voted to name the annex building in his honor.
