TOP PLAYERS — Union City’s Ben McMillan and Jada Williams have been chosen as The Messenger-Obion County Prep Players of the Year for their efforts during the 2020-21 basketball season. McMillan led the Golden Tornadoes to a 21-9 record and a spot in the Class A sectional round, averaging 16.8 points a game. He had 12 games with 20 or more points, including a career-high 35 in a 68-65 win over Colliersviille on Jan. 29. McMillan shot 36.3 percent from three-point range and 88.4 percent at the free throw line. He scored more than 1,800 points for his career and was an All-State selection as a junior. Williams, an Arkansas State signee, averaged 14.4 points per game during the season, upping that to 15 ppg in four postseason games as the Lady Twisters reached the regional semifinals and finished with a 14-12 record. She hit 51 percent of her two-point field goals and 34 percent from beyond the three-point circle. Williams also averaged 5.1 rebounds per game.
