J.A. Ransom, 86, of Union City passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at Union City Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Oct.. 17, 1934, in Obion County to the late L.J. and Pauline Vinson Ransom. He married Dorris Hoffman Ransom on April 15, 1953. She preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. today in Obion County Memorial Gardens. Jay Sellers officiated, with the assistance of Darrell Hoffman.
White-Ranson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jerry Pratt, Doug Brewer, Tootie Abernathy, Pressley Ransom Jr., Walt Sellers, Jeff Williams and Bobby Rankin will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Ransom was a car salesman for over 50 years, beginning at Obion County Motor Company and ending with Herman Jenkins Motors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many years enjoying both of these activities, especially on and near Reelfoot Lake. In his earlier years, he played in local baseball and softball leagues.
Mr. Ransom is survived by his daughters, Kathy Ransom of Union City and Daphie (Walt) Sellers of South Carolina; his grandchildren, Jay (Ashley) Sellers of Knoxville, and Nicole (Johnathan) Solomon of South Carolina; his great-grandchildren, Hadley Ann and Benjamine Graeme Sellers; his brother-in-law, Darrell (Carla) Hoffman; his sisters-in-law, Pam (Ray) Tolley, Gloria Ransom and Becky Hoffman; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife and parents, Mr. Ransom was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Ransom; and his sister, Margaret Ransom Hoffman.
