OPERATION GRATITUDE — Students at Hillcrest Elementary School in Troy held signs thanking local veterans as they lined their school’s front walk and drive-through Wednesday morning for a parade held as part of Operation Gratitude, the school’s 11th annual Veterans Day event. Veterans were treated to breakfast in the cafeteria, following social distancing guidelines, but students were not allowed to eat with them due to COVID-19 stipulations. In place of the school’s normal patriotic assembly, veterans were invited to parade in their vehicles through Hillcrest’s front drive, where the students held up hand-made signs, waved American flags and cheered to show their gratitude for the local veterans’ service and sacrifice.
